Description

The reliquary is executed in the purest tradition of the XVIth century. Bulging gadroons, scrolls terminating in grotesque and representations of rams’ heads may be found on the different models of engravings which decorate the monstrances dating from that period. The glass cylinder hosts in its centre a silver-gilt decoration composed of two opposed scrolls holding a flower and which probably contained the relic of a tooth of Saint Apollina.

About

Ce reliquaire est dans la plus pure tradition du XVIe siècle. Les godrons saillants, les volutes se terminant en grotesque et la représentation des têtes de bélier se retrouvent sur les modèles de gravures des monstrances de l’époque. Le cylindre en verre porte au centre, un décor en vermeil constitué de deux volutes affrontées enserrant une fleur qui devait contenir initialement une relique de dent de Sainte Apolline.
